Detectives Investigating Stabbing

Harford County detectives are investigating a stabbing that occurred in Edgewood late Friday evening.

On June 2, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., patrol deputies assigned to the Southern Precinct of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1600 block of Swallow Crest Drive in Edgewood for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, deputies located a male, identified as William Merrill McKinney, 39, of Edgewood, suffering from multiple stab wounds to the upper body. Deputies immediately began life-saving efforts on McKinney. Medics arrived and continued treatment before McKinney was airlifted to a local trauma center where he has been listed in critical but stable condition.

The investigation was assumed by detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. Detectives canvased the areas around Swallow Crest Drive throughout the evening for witnesses and are working to establish suspect(s) and a motive in the case. Investigators from the Forensic Services Unit responded to the area to collect and preserve physical evidence in support of the investigation.

Through initial investigation, detectives believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the general public at this time.
