The Harford County Sheriff’s Office offers internship opportunities during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Internships are available on a regular, as‑needed basis, and applications are accepted from college or university students who meet the following criteria:
- Are in good academic standing
- Are currently enrolled, or preparing to enroll, in a course that requires an internship
- Are recommended by the professor or instructor overseeing the placement
Qualified applicants may be invited to complete a formal application and participate in an interview. Successful candidates who receive a favorable recommendation and pass a background investigation may be placed within one of the agency’s divisions for 80–100 service hours. Placement is competitive and based on the student’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and the needs of the Sheriff’s Office. Requests for specific units or subject areas will be considered but are not guaranteed.
Application Windows
- Fall Semester: April 1 – June 30
- Spring Semester: September 1 – November 30
- Summer Semester: February 1 – April 30
Applications will not be accepted outside of these posted schedules, and late submissions will not be considered. Each semester will accommodate up to four interns.
Selection Process
All applicants must complete required screening, which includes:
- Fingerprint check
- Questionnaire regarding prior drug use
- Criminal record check
- Motor Vehicle Administration check
- Verification of valid photographic identification
Selected interns must also complete a drug screening within two weeks of their designated start date. Failure to pass this screening will result in revocation of the internship opportunity.
