Harford County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Detectives investigate a non-fatal domestic-related shooting in Abingdon where one adult male was wounded.
On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, around 1:00 a.m., deputies assigned to the Southern Precinct of the HCSO responded to the 4000 block of Sharilynn Drive in Abingdon for a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, deputies located a 65-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.
Deputies initiated lifesaving medical aid to control bleeding. Arriving deputies secured the crime scene and conducted a canvas of the area for witnesses and evidence. The victim was stabilized by local medics who transferred emergency care to the Maryland State Police Aviation Command who transported the victim to a local trauma center, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
Major Case Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators from the HCSO Investigative Services Bureau assumed control of the investigation. Detectives conducted interviews with witnesses and involved parties, while Crime Scene Investigators documented, collected, and preserved physical evidence essential to establishing the facts of the case and identifying those responsible.
Initial investigative findings indicate the shooting stemmed from a domestic argument between two brothers. The victim’s brother, Joseph S. Ray, a 66-year-old male, was taken into custody at the scene without incident. He was transported to the Harford County Detention Center and charged with Attempted First and Second-Degree Murder and possession of a regulated firearm, ammunition by a prohibited person, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime. Joseph Ray is currently awaiting initial Judicial Review.
Detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division have assumed responsibility for the investigation and are working to establish the sequence of events, motive, and all contributing factors.
