Ice Cream

OK Sgt. Eaton, if any Ice Cream Truck drivers did this, it would just be cruel….#TrafficTipTuesday

“For the past several weeks I have been discussing how some adults drive poorly in and around school zones. This week, I wanted to take a moment and talk to all the children out there.

Just imagine it. September is winding down, school is back in full swing, and you are coming to terms with the fact that summer is almost over. Then you hear it. Off in the distance like a musical beacon of hope: The bell of the ice cream truck. You slam shut your Advanced Physics textbook, race outside so quickly that you forget to put on your SpongeBob sneakers and come face to face with the driver of that glorious confectionary on wheels. Just as you are about to ask for a Nutty Buddy (from the bottom of the freezer of course because that is where the coldest one are), the driver tells you that he is not selling ice cream. He only plays the bell because he thinks it sounds cool.
Not only is this one of the cruelest things that can happen to you, it is also a violation of the Maryland Motor Vehicle Law. Section 22 401.1 specifically says that the improper use of bell(s) on an ice cream vehicle is punishable by a fine of $60.00. That’s right kids. If that ice cream truck gets your hopes up just to immediately ruin your day, you just call Traffic Sergeant Eaton. After all, ice cream is serious business!

As always, if you have a question or concern, please leave it in the comments below. Also, if you have a specific concern with unsafe driving in your area, such as speeding, drag racing, etc., give us a call, send an email, or reach out on social media. Until next week, slow down, pay attention, wear your seatbelt, and drive safely
