Detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division charged a Bel Air man and an Abingdon man in connection to a stabbing that occurred at the Bushmill Tavern in Abingdon on Tuesday, March 7, 2019.
On March 7, 2019, at approximately 2:11 a.m., deputies assigned to the Southern Precinct of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Bushmill Tavern in the 4000 block of Philadelphia Road in Abingdon for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, deputies were informed an adult male had been stabbed in the upper body. The victim was transported by medics with the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where he was treated for non-life –threatening injuries.
The investigation was assumed by detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division. Investigators from the Forensic Services Unit responded to collect and preserve physical evidence in support of the investigation.
The initial investigation indicated the victim and other individuals got into a verbal altercation in the Bushmill Tavern, that continued outside and became physical and the victim was stabbed. The suspects involved fled the scene prior to deputies’ arrival.
Through investigation, detectives identified two suspects, John Delmer Knopp, 38 of Bel Air, and Dominic Leon Sykes, 39 of Abingdon. Arrest warrants were issued for both individuals on Friday, March 8. Deputies assigned to the Warrant Unit of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office took both into custody on Saturday, March 9.
Knopp and Sykes were transported to the Harford County Detention Center. Knopp is charged with attempted 1st and 2nd degree murder, 1st and 2nd degree assault and reckless endangerment. Sykes is charged with attempted 2nd degree murder, 1st and 2nd degree assault and reckless endangerment. Both are being held without bond.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. There are no further details being released at this time.
