Suspect Arrested in Non-Fatal Stabbing

A Joppa man is recovering, and detectives are investigating following a stabbing in Joppa late Sunday night.

On September 5, 2021, at 10:53 p.m., deputies assigned to the Southern Precinct of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 300 block of Oakway Court in Joppa for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, deputies located a male, identified as Matthew Tingler, 37, of Joppa, suffering from a stab wound to the upper body. After initially attempting to refuse treatment, Tingler was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment, where he later self-discharged.

The investigation was assumed by detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. Investigators from the Forensic Services Unit responded to the area, to collect and preserve physical evidence in support of the investigation.

Initial investigation indicates Tingler became involved in a domestic related altercation with his girlfriend, Kathleen Moreau, 38. At some point during the altercation, Moreau stabbed Tingler in the mid-section, then fled the scene. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

Deputies assigned to the Warrant Apprehension Unit of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office began actively attempting to apprehend Moreau. On Tuesday, September 7, 2021, deputies with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Fugitive Unit took Moreau into custody without incident. She has been charged with attempted 1st and 2nd degree murder, 1st and 2nd degree assault and other related charges. She is currently being held at the Harford County Detention Center awaiting an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. No further details are being released at this time. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Detective DeFazio, with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, at 410-638-3603.
