Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler Appoints New Warden

Sheriff Gahler has announced the appointment of Daniel Galbraith to the Warden of the Harford County Detention Center. This appointment comes after the retirement of Warden Michael Capasso in December. This appointment took effect on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

As Warden, Galbraith will oversee a facility with the capacity to house nearly 800 inmates, although the current COVID pandemic has kept the population closer to 240, as well as a staff of Correctional Deputies and Civilians totaling more than 170. Prior to this appointment, Galbraith served the Office since 1989, most recently at the rank of Major and Chief of the Services and Support Bureau. Serving the citizens of Harford County as a member of the Sheriff’s Office, Galbraith worked as a patrol deputy, narcotics detective, and community relations deputy. During his tenure, he supervised the Community Action Response Team, the Harford County Narcotics Task Force, the Internal Affairs Unit, and the Planning and Research Unit. As a Commander, Galbraith led the midnight shift at the Southern Precinct, Planning and Research Unit and the Administrative Services Division.

Warden Galbraith attended and graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy Session #250, the Homeland Security Leadership Academy Session #1, and the Harford County Leadership Academy.

Of this appointment, Sheriff Gahler remarked, “Daniel Galbraith is the absolute perfect pick for Warden of the Harford County Detention Center. His proven leadership coupled with his decades-long institutional knowledge of the Agency, along with his strong community ties will serve him and our County well as he takes on his new role. I look forward to working closely with him as we build upon the successes of retired Warden Capasso to lead the Detention Center forward. Please join me in congratulating him and wishing him well in his new role.”
