Pedestrian Killed in Overnight Crash

[April 6, 2016, Joppa, MD] A Joppa man died early Wednesday morning, after he was struck by a motor vehicle while he ran in a driveway leading to a parking lot along Pulaski Highway, in Joppa.

On April 6, 2016, at approximately 12:30 a.m., deputies from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Southern Precinct responded to the 1000 block of Pulaski Highway for the report of a male’s body lying in the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered an adult male in the driveway suffering from a fatal head injury. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and Traffic Unit responded to the scene to investigate the cause and circumstances of the man’s death.

Information gathered at the scene indicated the man, identified as Scott Ores Jackson, age 21 of Joppa, was running along the driveway of the Super 8 Motel, in the direction of his residence, when a box truck turned in toward the parking lot and began traversing the driveway. As the truck passed Jackson, it is believed that he lost his footing and fell into the path of the rear wheels of the truck.

The driver and passenger in the box truck were unaware of the incident, and proceeded into the hotel parking lot. Neither was injured. After speaking with deputies, they were released.

At this time, detectives believe Jackson’s death to be accidental. No citations were issued at the scene. After consultation with the State’s Attorney’s Office, no charges will be filed. Jackson’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.

As the investigation continues, anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Detective Christopher Maddox at 443-409-3551.
