Detectives investigate a shooting early on New Years Day in Edgewood

On Thursday, January 1, 2026, around 3:00 AM, deputies assigned to the Southern Precinct of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) were dispatched to a Baltimore area hospital for a walk-in victim reporting that he had been shot in the Edgewood area.

Deputies arrived at the hospital and spoke with a family member of the victim who witnessed the shooting. The victim, a 21-year-old man, was shot in the upper body and was unable to provide deputies with suspect information. The witness reported that the victim was a front seat passenger in a vehicle that the witness was operating. Three other people were in the back seat of the vehicle. The suspect was one of the three in the back seat. The suspect removed a handgun from her waistband and the handgun discharged, striking the victim. The suspect and two other witnesses exited the vehicle a short time later and the witness took the victim to the hospital where he remains.

The investigation was assumed by detectives with the HCSO Criminal Investigations Division. Investigators from the Forensic Services Unit also responded to assist. Based on the investigation, deputies obtained and executed a court ordered search and seizure warrant on the vehicle. Detectives recovered a loaded unserialized handgun along with additional evidence from inside the vehicle. An apparent bullet hole was observed in the passenger side dash of the vehicle and a bullet was recovered from the vehicle.

A suspect has been identified and the investigation is ongoing. Charges are forthcoming and no further information will be released until charges have been filed and served.
