Custody in connection with non-fatal shooting

On May 30, 2017, deputies with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office took Rocceon Madrice Harrison, 18, into custody in connection with a non-fatal shooting that occurred in April. On April 10, at approximately 9 pm, deputies assigned to the Southern Precinct of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the rear of the Edgewater Village Shopping Center in Edgewood for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located a female victim, Lennira Justine Ardawn Sumler, 19, of Edgwood suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Medics from the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company treated Sumler at the scene and subsequently transported her by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Patrol deputies secured the location and located the crime scene at the nearby path to Grempler Way. The investigation was assumed by detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID). Investigators from the Forensic Services Unit responded to the area to collect and preserve physical evidence in support of the investigation.

Through investigation, it was determined the victim, with two other individuals, was walking in the area when a group of unidentified black males started yelling and shooting at them. The other two individuals were uninjured.

Detectives assigned to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office CID continued the investigation and developed suspect information that led to the issue of an arrest warrant on May 24 for Rocceon Harrison. Harrison turned himself into deputies on May 30. He was charged with attempted first degree murder, first degree assault, second degree assault, reckless endangerment, and use of a firearm in commission of violent crime. On May 31, following a bail review in front of a judge, he was released on his own recognizance.
