Charges Filed In Overnight Edgewood Homicide

[June17, 2015, Edgewood, MD] — Harford County Sheriff’s Office detectives have charged a person in relation to an overnight homicide in Edgewood.

At approximately 10:50 p.m., Harford County Sheriff’s Office Deputies assigned to the Crime Suppression Unit and K-9 Unit were conducting a traffic stop in the 1800 block of Brookside Drive when they heard multiple gunshots nearby. Deputies immediately responded to the area of Brookside Drive and Grempler Way to investigate. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an adult male, identified as Darius Eizayah Andrew Preston, 21, lying on the sidewalk in the 1800 block of Grempler Way suffering from a gunshot wound. First aid was rendered by deputies on the scene. EMS personnel transported the victim to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Patrol deputies from the Southern Precinct, canvased the area and located a suspect running from the scene, in the area of Grempler Way. He was quickly taken into custody, without incident. Detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and members of the Forensic Services Unit responded to the scene to assume the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, Marvin Jahvon Smith, 26, of the 400 block of Burnley Court in Edgewood has been charged with the homicide and several gun related charges. Smith was taken to the Harford County Detention Center where he was processed and is currently being held without bail.
