Detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division charged a Baltimore man Wednesday night in connection to a bank robbery that occurred earlier in the day.
On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at 5:09 p.m., deputies assigned to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Southern Precinct responded to the Truist Bank in the 1000 block of Gateway Road for the report of a bank robbery. Upon arrival, it was learned that an unknown black male entered the bank, approached bank employees, pointed a handgun, and demanded money. The suspect fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries were reported as a result of the robbery.
The investigation was assumed by detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. Investigators from the Forensic Services Unit responded to the scene to collect and preserve physical evidence in support of the investigation.
Additionally, Sheriff’s Deputies and Maryland State Troopers from the Bel Air Barrack responded to canvas the area, with assistance from a K9 unit and the Sheriff’s Office Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) unit. A suspicious vehicle was located by deputies and a community member in the 900 block of Swallow Crest Court. A perimeter including road closures was established. An extensive canvas of area businesses and neighborhoods continued in search of witnesses and video evidence.
Heavy tint on the vehicle windows prevented an assessment as to the presence of occupants. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) attempted to contact potential occupants of the vehicle. SRT was successful in their efforts and a single male, identified as Mosiah Fit 1st, AKA Charles Jerrod Blanding, Jr., 32, of Baltimore, Maryland, exited after repeated requests by SRT. No one else was found in the vehicle and no injuries were reported. Fit was taken into custody without further incident.
Detectives executed a Search and Seizure Warrant on the vehicle. Evidence linking Fit to the robbery was located during the search.
Fit was charged with using a firearm in commission of a felony, transporting a handgun in a vehicle, robbery, theft, and assault on the bank employees.
After being interviewed by Sheriff’s Office Detectives, Fit was transported to the Harford County Detention Center where he awaits his initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner. The investigation is ongoing. At this time, it is believed that there are no outstanding suspects or that there is an ongoing threat to the community.
