Deputies arrest 31-year-old Joshua Brewster of North East for a shooting that occurred this morning in Bel Air.
On April 10, 2024, at approximately 5:53 a.m., deputies assigned to the Southern Precinct of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 200 block of Highland Road for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an adult female with a gunshot wound to the lower body. Harford County Medics responded and staged until the scene was secure. The victim refused treatment. Within minutes, at 5:59 am, a Harford County Sheriff’s Office drone was launched to assist in the search for the suspect. Deputies using the drone located Brewster behind apartments located in the 300 block of Sunflower Drive, where he was quickly apprehended while hiding under a tree. The arrest was made without incident, at 6:14 a.m.
The investigation was assumed by detectives with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. Investigators from the Forensic Services Unit responded to the area to collect and preserve physical evidence in support of the investigation.
When speaking with the victims on Highland Road, it was determined Brewster confronted the first victim as she walked into the breezeway portion of her home. Brewster threatened her with a gun and told her to turn around and place her hands behind her back. The second victim, hearing the commotion, entered the breezeway and confronted Brewster who fled from the house. While fleeing, he fired in the direction of the house, striking the first victim.
During the investigation, it was further determined that Brewster was the suspect in an attempted burglary earlier in the morning, at approximately 2:30 a.m., in the 600 block of Hanna Road.
Brewster was transported to the Harford County Detention Center, where he was charged accordingly, including two counts of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm. He is awaiting his first appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
