Armed Robbery Suspect Barricades Himself in Edgewood Home

[October 5, 2016, Edgewood, MD] Detectives charged an Edgewood man Tuesday evening in connection to three recent armed robberies in Harford County.

On October 4th, at approximately 10:29 am., a deputy from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Southern Precinct was conducting a proactive patrol check in the 500 block of Trimble Road in response to a series of armed robberies that occurred in close proximity. While in the area, the deputy observed a person matching the suspect’s description. The deputy’s attempt to make contact with the subject, later identified as, Brandon Ridge Anderson-Ballard, age 27, resulted in a foot chase. The chase proceeded through a wooded area and ended when Ballard barricaded himself in a relative’s home located on Morgan Street in Harford Commons.

Ballard refused deputies efforts to have him exit the home and refused to communicate with deputies who had secured the perimeter. A request for specialized assistance was made by patrol deputies. Deputies assigned to the Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) responded to the scene and eventually established contact with Ballard. During the course of negotiations, CNT deputies were able to convince Ballard to peaceably surrender. Shortly before 2:00 pm, Ballard exited the house and was taken into custody, without incident or injury.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigations Division (CID), was requested to respond to the residence, and assumed the investigation. Detectives assigned to the Forensic Services Unit responded to process the scene for evidence.

Ballard was subsequently charged in connection with three armed robberies including the Royal Farms store on Edgewood Road on September 28th and the armed robberies of Wings and Pies on Edgewood Road and Little Caesars on Hanson Road, both occurring on October 3rd, 2016. After being interviewed by CID Detectives, Ballard was transported to the Harford County Detention Center, where he is being held without bail.
