Retired Maryland State Trooper First Class John Heckner

September 12, 2021

On September 7, 2021, Retired Maryland State Trooper First Class John Heckner, along with his family, met with members of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, Harford County Department of Emergency Services, and Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, to share their sincere thanks and appreciation for the job they collectively did to save Mr. Heckner’s life, in July.

Mr. Heckner and his family wanted to recognize all the individuals that were instrumental in attaining ROSC (Return of Spontaneous Circulation) during a medical emergency. The participation and rapid response of the deputies and EMS providers were influential in providing lifesaving care to this individual in our community and undeniably can be attributed to a “save” in this patient.

We wish all the best to Retired Maryland State Trooper First Class Heckner as he continues his recovery! Harford County Department of Emergency Services The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company

Badges for Baseball

August 10, 2021

This afternoon we celebrated as the 14th year of Badges for Baseball came to a close. This awesome program brought deputies and local kids together as they worked on the fundamentals of baseball together and had loads of fun!

We hope all the kids had as much fun as we did, and we can’t wait to see you again soon!

Annual National Night Out event

August 4, 2021

Wow! We were excited to visit with so many community members and partners last night, at our Annual National Night Out event. The weather provided a perfect backdrop to a fantastic night. Thank you, to all who participated, for your support of law enforcement and first responders. You are the reason we continue to be forever honored to serve this community.

School Resource Officers

July 23, 2021

School Resource Officers aren’t just in schools to provide protection and assist in emergencies. They’re there to connect with the students and build relationships that will hopefully last for years.

Recently, one of our former SROs, who has since been promoted into another unit, was honored by a student from one of his past schools.

The student and SRO first came to know each other while the student was attending middle school. He was going through a tough time and turned to the SRO for guidance and support. After a while, they both found themselves “graduating” into the same high school, where our SRO continued to mentor this young man, and help him keep his life on the right track. Despite promoting out of the school, and into another unit several years ago, the SRO and student continued to keep in touch.

Fast forward, this young man earned his Eagle Scout and asked the SRO to attend the ceremony. There he invited his former SRO to the stage where he celebrated with a “big hug” and presented the SRO with a Boy Scouts of America Challenge Coin.

It was a truly awesome moment for everyone and signifies how much of an impact a positive, mentoring, relationship can have on someone’s life.

Injured Osprey

July 20, 2021

Earlier today, Animal Control received a call from Exelon Energy that they had an injured osprey on their property.

It appears the bird’s tail feathers, wing feathers and feathers on its head had all been burned. It was an otherwise healthy bird, and was taken to Phoenix Wildlife Center, Inc. for care.

Badges for Baseball

July 18, 2021

For 14 years, deputies with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office have taken part in the Badges for Baseball Program!

Ten years ago, a young man named Taysean joined us for the program. This week he returned to the field, now as an employee of the HCSO, and hopefully a future deputy!

Cadet Fitzgerald is a testament to the success of this program. Designed to keep the youth involved in positive activities in the summer, and build relationships between youth and law enforcement, Badges for Baseball has been a great success here in Harford County.

The connections Taysean made through the program, in 2011 and beyond, sparked his interest in the Sheriff’s Office. In November he was hired as a Cadet, and he plans on applying for our law enforcement academy next year!

Camp Wonder

July 16, 2021

Earlier this week, School Resource Officers spent the day with Harford County Public Schools students at Camp Wonder!

To beat the heat, they competed with the kids in several water relays!

Even in the summer, our awesome SROs take time to connect and build relationships with the students they work with!

Happy 4th of July, Harford County!

July 4, 2021

Happy 4th of July, Harford County!

The Parade started with members of the HCSO Motors Unit. Next up, was the Harford County Sheriffs Office Honor Guard, followed by the Tribute vehicle – bringing remembrance to the loss and sacrifice of fallen deputies.

Also, did you catch who was in the truck with Sheriff Jeff Gahler? It was JACK! Jack joined the Sheriff as his VIP! Jack has been serving the HCSO since 1987!

We hope you and your family had a safe and fun time at the Parade!
