• LAW ENFORCEMENT DEPUTY RECRUIT Closing date: 10/11/2026

  Harford County Sheriff’s Office is seeking to establish an eligibility list for the position of Deputy Sheriff Recruit, with responsibility for delivering law enforcement service throughout Harford County.

  POSITION IS ENTITLED TO A $10,000 RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE PAYMENT UPON HIRING AND COMPLETION OF TRAINING ACADEMY.

  The Law Enforcement Deputy position starting salary is $34.17 per hour/$71,074 annual and the position has opportunities for overtime, compensatory time, holiday pay, shift differential for evening and midnight shifts and uniform allowance.

• CLASSIFICATION AND PRETRIAL SERVICES COUNSELOR Closing date: 10/04/2026

  Conduct intake interviews, make risk assessments affecting inmate custody and security levels, and determine appropriate housing, work detail, program assignments, and eligibility for services; investigate and verify information, obtain criminal histories, responsible for all aspects of inmate case management; manage, plan, organize, schedule, evaluate, and coordinate the pretrial release services program; provide referrals and recommendations to the Court; supervise program participants; and perform other duties as assigned.

  Starting salary is $31.26 per hour.

  The Classification Counselor position has opportunities for overtime and compensatory time.

• TEMPORARY INVENTORY SPECIALIST Closing date: 09/30/2026

  Manage the property owned by the Sheriff’s Office by maintaining a written assessment of purchased, transferred and surplus property; oversee property accounting, inventories, transfers, storage and re-utilization and property disposals; perform other duties as assigned.

  Starting salary is $40.57 per hour and the position is part-time.

  The Temporary Inventory Specialist position has opportunities for overtime and comp time.

• LAW ENFORCEMENT DEPUTY-LATERAL TRANSFER Closing date: 12/21/2026

  Harford County Sheriff’s Office is seeking to establish an eligibility list for the position of Deputy Sheriff-Lateral transfer, with responsibility for delivering law enforcement services throughout Harford County.

  This position requires that you are currently a certified police officer in the state of Maryland holding valid certification from the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions in good standing or a certified law enforcement officer in another state in good standing and eligible for certification in Maryland through Comparative Compliance program.  THIS IS NOT AN ENTRY LEVEL POSITION.

  POSITION IS ENTITLED TO A $10,000 RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE UPON HIRING AND COMPLETION OF FIELD TRAINING PROGRAM AND $5,000 RELOCATION INCENTIVE UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS (pending funding availability).

  The Law Enforcement Deputy (lateral transfer) position starting salary is $37.30 per hour/$77,584 annual and has opportunities for overtime, compensatory time, holiday pay, shift differential for evening and midnight shifts and uniform allowance.

   

• MAINTENANCE OFFICER Closing date: 10/12/2026

  Troubleshoot, inspect, repair and replace security mechanisms, plumbing equipment, electrical devices, and air conditioning and heating systems; oversee contractors who come in to perform repairs; supervise inmates on details; perform other duties as assigned.

  Starting salary is $25.65 per hour and the position has opportunities for overtime, compensatory time, and holiday pay.

• SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD Closing date: 12/21/2026

  To provide for the safe passage of pedestrian traffic; to render aid and assistance, to ensure the smooth, safe movement of traffic; to provide advance warning to motorists of an intersection that is under the control of a crossing guard; perform other duties as assigned.

  There are permanent and on-call positions available.  A permanent position starts at $20.67 per hour and is eligible for pension and medical benefits. An on-call position is paid $20.57 per hour and is not eligible for any benefits.
