In 1773, Harford County emerged as an independent entity, carved out from Baltimore County, thus attaining the status of the 15th county in Maryland. The government of Harford County was officially established on March 22, 1774, coinciding with the appointment of its inaugural sheriff, Thomas Miller.
In the 250 years since, the Sheriff’s Office has evolved from its humble origin to becoming the largest Sheriff’s Office in Maryland. Today, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office is comprised of 684 men and women who are entrusted with delivering a full range of law enforcement, corrections, and court services to the citizens of our County.
Below you will see the official Harford County Sheriff’s Office’s 250th Anniversary Patch, specifically designed to be a tribute to the exceptional history and rich legacy of a proud and respected Agency. This commemorative patch, the identical size and shape of the current patch worn by our uniform deputies, features the Agency’s 250th Anniversary Logo emblazoned in silver against a blue background. The logo itself incorporates a homage to the first badges known to have been worn by Harford County deputies (circa 1895).
Thank you for being a part of our history, we look forward to continuing to serve our Harford County Community.
