On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at approximately 12:23 p.m., deputies assigned to the HCSO Crime Suppression Unit, while responding to a tip from the community, witnessed suspected drug activity and attempted to initiate a stop of a vehicle in the area of Abingdon Road, in Abingdon. The vehicle failed to stop and intentionally struck an HCSO vehicle, an uninvolved Harford County Government vehicle, and an uninvolved civilian vehicle. Further confrontation resulted in two deputies discharging their service weapons at the intersection of Cotswold Court and Tewkesbury Road, where the suspect fled the vehicle. After a foot pursuit, deputies took the suspect into custody without further incident. The confrontation between the suspect and two HCSO deputies is still under investigation.

Deputies immediately rendered medical aid for minor injuries until Emergency Medical Services arrived. The male suspect was transported to a local area hospital. It is not immediately clear if his injuries are a result of the deputies’ use of force.

Detectives from the HCSO Criminal Investigations Division have assumed responsibility for the investigation and are working to establish the sequence of events and all contributing factors. Specialists from the Forensic Services Unit processed the scene and collected physical evidence to support the ongoing investigation.

Two Deputies have been placed on routine administrative leave, as is usual in incidents such as this. Charges against the suspect are pending based on the totality of the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
