Youth Explorers Post 6600

Explore the exciting and challenging career opportunities as a Deputy Sheriff. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program sponsors Exploring through the Exploring/Learning for Life Division of the Scouting of America. This program offers youth an opportunity to learn about many facets of law enforcement. The program provides an opportunity for those interested to interact with and learn from Harford County Deputies. The program also provides an opportunity to learn the requirements to succeed in a possible future law enforcement career and teaches the explorer about leadership, discipline, courage, honor, and integrity.

Explorer members are expected to attend all regularly scheduled meetings, twice a month, with some exceptions. Members receive basic instruction in all phases of law enforcement including criminal law, traffic law, criminal investigations, crime prevention, traffic control and direction, crash investigation, juvenile delinquency, and other related fields that are integral parts of the modern law enforcement agency.

Requirements:

  • Be at least 14 years of age and have entered the 9th grade
  • Have at the time of entry, and continually maintain, a minimum grade average of “C” in school.

  • Be of sound health and be free of any physical defect that would cause injury to themselves, or jeopardize others participating in the program.
  • Have full approval of parent(s) or guardian(s) and assurance of their support and cooperation.
  • The Harford County Sheriff’s Office will pay dues and renewal membership fees; (these fees go to the chartering agency, the Boy Scouts of America).

These details may consist of traffic direction, assisting in public events, fundraising, recruiting, and other special assignments. Participation is also encouraged for special Post functions that may include field trips, multi-post regional training seminars, and the Ride-Along program. Explorers are expected to follow the rules and regulations in the Post manual. Uniforms are provided and opportunities for promotion within the Post are offered.
