Photos Circulated to Local Media Lead to Arrest in Two Days
[April 12, 2013, Bel Air, MD] — Only two days after intense media saturation of the surveillance video and photos circulated by the Harford County Sheriff's Office, Jason William Foland, 24, with an address in the 600 block of Long Bar Harbor Drive in Abingdon, MD, was arrested and charged in connection with the armed robbery of the Abingdon 7-11 on April 6, 2013.
As the investigation intensified, multiple media outlets, including Facebook, were posting photos of the suspect in an attempt to close the case. The Sheriff's Office Facebook page alone had more than 3,000 views of the surveillance video. As a result, on Thursday, April 11, 2013, shortly after 9:00 pm, Mr. Foland turned himself in, without incident, to detectives at the Southern Precinct. He has been charged with Armed Robbery, Theft Less than $100, and Second Degree Assault. Mr. Foland is currently being held on bail of $30,000 at the Harford County Detention Center.
The robbery occurred on Saturday, April 06, 2013, at approximately 5:25 am at the 7-11 on the corner of Rt.7 and Abingdon Road, in Abingdon, MD. The suspect approached the cashier with a knife and demanded money and cigarettes. After receiving both, he fled on foot towards Rt.7. No injuries were reported.
