The Major Case Unit investigates cases of homicide, suicide, unattended deaths, robbery, rape and other sexual offenses, abduction/kidnappings, serious assaults, child abuse, and persons missing under suspicious circumstances. Major Case detectives are specially trained to investigate crimes against persons, including death investigation.
Two Major Case investigators are assigned to the Harford County Child Advocacy Center. The Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the investigation of allegations of sexual child abuse. The team consists of representatives from the Harford County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police, Harford County State's Attorney's Office and the Harford County Department of Social Services.
